RE: [Pvx] ADDR question

The DROP directive has an ERR= clause, and I normally set it to ERR=*NEXT to
handle the potential of the program not being ADDR'd.

Neal,

Thanks for conforming my suspicion. I tried the ADDR yesterday and PC as
well as Mike King suggested. Problem with PC is that the program stays in
memory after the panel is closed. I don't like the idea because the user may
not use the same program for the rest of the day.

If Nomads had a switch to drop the program once the panel is closed, I could
use it. But for now, ADDR at the beginning of the panel and DROP at the end
will do. I have not tried this, but can you DROP a program manually if its
not ADDRed but is cached because of PC?

This is interesting. I just added a PC=20 and tried the application. The
cache list showed 25 program. It must allows 5 more than the PC setting. I
get Error 17 DROPping a cached program.

May me Mr. KING can enlighten us a little more.

Lalit:

We perform ADDR on all our "common" programs (including all imbedded I/O
programs, and the library routine file) in our start_up program. When we
did this, we saw a noticable performance improvement.

I can't speak to your specific question, but in general the ADDR did give us
additional performance.

Subject: [Pvx] ADDR question

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know if ADDRing the primary program at the first use by a panel
will add any performance gain? I have an inquiry panel which performs
routines in the main program. These routines get executed many-many times
during a session. Just wondering if I should ADDR the program in the
PreDisplay logic and Drop it upon exit.

Any downside of doing it? All thoughts are appreciated.
